When exporting to New Zealand 4 types of 'helds' may cause the parcel’s journey to stop at the 'customs held for inspection' scan on the tracking. Below is a breakdown of the types of helds and reasons for being stopped upon arrival in NZ;
HIGH VALUE
NZ customs have implemented a threshold for the total value of parcels/orders being imported into New Zealand. A high-value parcel is a single parcel for the same receiver that exceeds the threshold of $1000NZD.
MULTIPLE HIGH VALUE
Multiple high values are 2 or more parcels for the same receiver, that have been combined upon arrival in New Zealand and exceed the NZ threshold (same receiver name, address etc)
Parcels flagged as high value may take 4 to 5 business days for clearance.
MPI
An MPI is a parcel held by the Ministry of Primary Industry. MPI focus is to protect New Zealand from disease and pests, a formal clearance with MPI is requested to get the held parcel cleared.
Parcels flagged as MPI held may take 5 to 7 business days for clearance.
RANDOM
NZ customs from time to time place a held-on parcel and is completely selected at random. This held is done by NZ customs to check all importation requirements have been met. As this is completely random, we cannot anticipate this.
Parcels flagged as random held may take 3-4 business days for clearance.
